By implementing these strategies, you can maximize your sales potential and build a successful eBay business.

So let’s dive in!

Find Out What Customers Want (and Stock That!)

Finding the right items to sell is an important step in how to successfully sell fast on eBay. Knowing what customers want it an important part of market research and stocking those items will help you get noticed, generate more sales, and increase your profits.

In this section, we’ll discuss how to get an idea of customer demand so you can find the perfect inventory for your store, how to leverage keywords and visual elements in your listings to draw attention from potential buyers, and talk about how to monitor the competition so you can stay one step ahead of them when it comes time to list new products!

Check What’s Hot on eBay

The best way to understand what customers are interested in is to analyze what’s currently popular and selling well on eBay. This can help you identify trends, popular brands, best-selling items, and demand for specific types of products.

To check what’s hot on eBay, shop around. You can also use eBay’s search function to look for items that are selling well (and for a good price) in your category.

Also, finding out what’s hot outside of eBay is just as important as knowing what’s selling well on the platform. By tracking popular trends, you can spot similar items that are likely to be successful on eBay.

Find a Profitable Niche

Not everyone has a niche on eBay, and that’s ok! Some of us like to just sell anything that makes money. That’s totally how I am. However, sometimes getting into a niche you specialize in can be very profitable.

One great way to do this is to find categories where there is not a lot of competition or that require a bit of extra knowledge to sell in. To find a profitable niche, think about your own interests and areas of expertise.

As you get more experienced in your niche, you will be able to identify the most profitable products that someone who isn’t in that niche may pass up on! This is one way to be a successful ebay seller without always carrying typical best-selling items.

Know Your Competition

It’s can be helpful to understand what your competition is doing. This can involve researching their products, pricing, and marketing strategies. Just keeping an eye on what other similar sellers are doing can give you ideas for your own business.

To know your competition, start by searching for similar products on eBay and other online marketplaces. Look at the products they’re listing, how they are being presented, and their sales and price points. You can also look at their customer reviews to see what customers like and don’t like about their products.

By following these steps, you can gain valuable insights into what customers want and curate your store with products that will sell quickly on eBay.

Creating Effective eBay Listings

When it comes to creating an eBay listing that gets noticed and sells, there are a few key elements that can make a big, big difference. Here’s what you need to know about the best practices for creating effective listings:

Leverage Keywords for Better Search Visibility

This may be the most important factor in creating an effective ebay listing. If your customer can’t find your item when they search, how are they going to buy it?

It’s important to use keywords in your listings that will help them show up in search results. Think about the words and phrases that potential buyers might use to search for products like yours, and be sure to include them in your title and product description. This can help your listing show up higher in search results and get more visibility.

Include High-Quality Photos

Good photos can make a huge difference in how appealing your product looks to potential buyers. Be sure to take clear, high-quality photos that show your product from different angles and in different lighting conditions. Consider using a plain background or setting to help your product stand out, and avoid using filters or other editing tools that might misrepresent your product.

Bonus: include as many photos as possible. Make sure to cover every single angle, tag, flaw, etc. to ensure your customer can buy that item with total confidence that it will arrive in the expected condition. You don’t want to look like you’re hiding anything.

By following these tips, you can create an effective eBay listing that showcases your product in the best possible light and encourages potential buyers to make a purchase.

Set the Right Price

One of the most important factors in selling on eBay is setting the right price for your products. Too expensive, and it’ll sit forever. Too cheap, and it might sell fast, but you’ll miss out on a good profit margin! There has to be a middle ground, right?

In this section, you’ll find some tips to make sure you’re pricing your products competitively.

Keeping an eye on your competition can help you understand what price points are reasonable for your products and what kind of price adjustments you may need to make to stay competitive.

To monitor the competition, take some time to research other sellers who are offering similar products to yours. You may want to adjust your price accordingly if you notice that your product is priced significantly higher or lower than your competitors.

Another strategy is to use eBay’s “Completed Listings” or “Sold Listings” feature, which lets you see how much similar products have sold for in the past. This can help you understand what price points are reasonable and what factors might impact the final sale price. I wrote a whole about how to search sold listings on ebayto help price your items.

It’s also important to be flexible with your pricing strategy and make adjustments as needed. For example, you might want to offer discounts (which I’ll discuss below) during slower sales periods, or adjust your prices based on fluctuations in demand or changes in market conditions.

Pro tip: I always recommend going with a fixed price listing instead of an auction-style listing unless you have something people are definitely going to fight over and drive the price up. Otherwise, I can almost guarantee it’ll sell for a much lower price that you’re hoping for.

By monitoring the competition as well as past sales and adjusting your prices as needed, you can ensure that your products are priced competitively and attractively to potential buyers.

Promotional Tools to Maximize Sales

In this section, we’ll discuss how to use promotional tools and strategies to maximize your sales and help you sell fast on eBay.

Run eBay Sales and Promotions

One way to generate more interest in your eBay listings is to offer sales and promotions to your customers. eBay provides a number of tools to help you create promotional campaigns that can incentivize buyers to make a purchase, such as offering discounts or percentage-off sales. Consider creating a promotion during holidays or seasons to boost sales.

One thing I like to do is to run sales for just a few days at a time. My reasoning for this is that there is a sense of urgency when a sale is running for only a few days. Customers don’t want to miss out, so they’re more likely to make a purchase immediately so they don’t miss out on the item in case they forget to come back before the sale ends. Plus, it’s easier to measure how successful your promotions are and adjust them if needed since you won’t have as much time between each promotion.

To run a markdown sale, go into your Seller Hub in eBay and click “Marketing”, then “Promotions”. From there on the right side you’ll click “Create a Promotion” then “Sale Event + Markdown”.

Then you can decide on a percentage off you want to offer and select which items you want to run a sale on. When I have inventory that has been sitting for a long time that I want to move, I will select those items specifically an do a 50%+ off sale to get them out. But I also run regular 10%-20% off sales throughout the month.

Turn on Best Offer

If you haven’t tried using the “Best Offer” feature on your fixed price listings, give it a try! It allows buyers to send you an offer and could increase your sales by enticing people who want to pay a little less.

Yes, it’s true if you turn on Best Offer, you risk people sending ridiculously low offers. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to take them! It’s your choice to accept, reject, or counteroffer.

By enabling Best Offer, you give potential buyers an incentive to make a purchase since they know there’s at least a chance of getting the item for less than the asking price. Plus, it allows customers to haggle and feel like they got a good deal – which can lead to more sales and a better customer experience.

Try Offering Free Shipping

Consider offering free shipping on your eBay listings. This can be an easy way to encourage buyers to make a purchase, as it reduces the total cost of the item and can make it more appealing. Offering free shipping or discounted pricing is also an effective way to stand out from other sellers on eBay, who may not be offering such promotions.

On eBay, buyers can filter items by those that are marked as “free shipping” so offering this type of promotions gives your items a better chance of being seen and purchased. Remember to still consider shipping costs in your price so you’re not missing out on making a profit.

Promoted Listings

Promoted Listings are an effective way to increase the visibility of your listings on eBay and get more eyes on your products. It’s simple to use—just pick the listings you want to promote and what percentage of the sale price you’re willing to pay to sell the item (on top of the final value fee and insertion fee), and eBay will put your items at the top of relevant searches. You’ll only be charged when the item is purchased (not for clicks or views).

While a lot of sellers have really avoided this option, it’s becoming clear that Promoted Listings may be the way to go in order to get more eyes on your products and increase sales.

Above are my results for all of 2022. I spent an extra $36.83 in ad fees which resulted in an extra 30 sales and $878.75! For me, that’s worth it.

To promote your listings, go to your active listings and select the listings you want to promote then go to “Actions” and click “Promote.

It’ll pop up a window where you can decide what percent you’re willing to pay if the item sells. This is on top of final value fees and any other fees, so just just make sure you have enough room in your profit. It usually recommends something a bit high like 7%, but I usually stick to 2-4%.

By using these promotional tools, you can drive more traffic to your eBay store, increase sales, and build a loyal customer base that will keep coming back for more.

More Tips for Optimizing Your Listings for Faster Sales

While there are many strategies that can help you optimize your eBay listings for maximum sales, there are a few key tips and tricks that can help you stay ahead of the competition and drive more traffic to your online store. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Look at Your Analytics

As an eBay seller, it’s important to regularly check and analyze your analytics to get insights into your performance and make informed decisions about your business. Why?

Your analytics can help you:

  • Identify what’s working and what’s not
  • Make data-driven decisions based on what is/isn’t working
  • Optimize your listings for better visibility in search engines
  • Identify opportunities for improvement

To access your analytics, go to your Seller Hub and click “Performance”. From there you can look through all of the difference performance metrics to see how your account is doing.

Maintain a Positive Reputation on eBay

Reputation is everything on eBay, so it’s important to maintain a positive reputation with your customers. This can involve responding to customer inquiries and issues promptly, delivering your products in a timely and professional manner, and earning positive feedback and reviews from your customers. Maintaining a positive reputation can also help you build trust with potential buyers, keep you in good standing with ebay, so your listings have a better chance of being shown in search.

eBay accounts with a poor reputation, and too many negative reviews or feedback, tend to have a harder time getting traction and making sales because they are suppressed by eBay. Keep that in mind when a problem comes up. You always want to go for the positive reviews!

Fill out the item specifics

While it can be a pain to fill in all of those item specifics when listing your item on eBay, some people do use those to filter and categorize their searches. Filling out all of the item specifics can help search engine traffic find your listings more easily, leading to possible sales.

Personally, I wouldn’t spend a ton of time on the really specific ones, but ensuring the required ones are accurate and briefly skimming the others and filling in any that might help isn’t a bad idea.

If people use these filters to search and you don’t fill them in, yours will be filtered out so it can really help.

Delist and relist stale items

If you find that your items are not getting any traction on eBay and don’t seem to be selling, try delisting them and then relist them. When an item sits for a long time, it looks to eBay like it’s an item that no one wants so they stop showing it to as many people. Their goal is to sell items, not show items that won’t sell, right?

What you want to do is create an entirely new listing for stale items. Of course, you don’t have to do it all from scratch. You can simply end the listing and use the “sell similar” option to make a totally new listing. If you use the “relist” option, you’re just relisting the previous listing so it won’t get as much of a boost.

When selling similar, it can’t hurt to just kind of double check your title and make any small changes like replacing a few keywords.

Or if you want a faster way to do this, I do 10 at a time using Vendoo’s bulk delist/relist tool! You can filter the items by the “stalest” which means the ones that have been listed the longest, then select 10 items, click which platforms you want to delist and relist on, and then it works in the background!

It’s seriously one of the best features of Vendoo because it takes seconds and just works in the background while I do other tasks. Click here to check out Vendoo.

Include all the information upfront

Don’t let the buyer wonder about literally anything. Include measurements, pictures of every angle, how they can pay, how long it will take to ship, what your return policy is, how you’ll handle damage during shipping—you name it.

The more information you include in your listing upfront, the more confident the buyer will be in hitting that “buy now” button!
