Poshmark Review for Sellers: Is it worth it? (Read first!)

Maybe you’re already reselling items online and you’re wondering if you should add Poshmark to your list. Or maybe you just have a bunch of clothes that you don’t wear anymore and are looking to make a little extra money selling clothes online. How does Poshmark work?

Poshmark is a selling app and website that allows sellers to list their items and buyers to buy those items. The seller provides photos, information, and a price and when the right buyer comes along they can purchase the item or make an offer. Once the item has sold, Poshmark provides the seller with a shipping label to print out and put on the package and then the package can be dropped off with USPS. It’s pretty simple once you’ve done it a few times, but it can be intimidating if it’s new to you.

While I think Poshmark is a great marketplace to sell items online, it does have it’s pros and cons.

Pros to Selling on Poshmark

  • Free to list items (there is a fee once it sells)
  • Easy to list items
  • Built in customers
  • On trend and designer items sell well
  • Easy to ship with provided label
  • Large number of users/shoppers

Cons to Selling on Poshmark

  • 20% fee is higher than most marketplaces
  • Limited to clothing, accessories, and home decor
  • You need to share your items and stay active to make sales

What sells best on Poshmark?

While there is plenty that sells well on Poshmark, it’s pretty well known as a women’s fashion app. Although you can sell other items such as mens clothing, children’s clothing, home decor, and a few other categories, the majority of transactions seem to be for women’s clothing.

However, you can’t just list anything on Poshmark and make money. The items that do the best are on trend items and designer items. Listing items that people are actively looking for is the key to making sales on Poshmark so knowing what types of items are popular with buyers is extremely helpful.

Can you make a living selling on Poshmark?

There are definitely people who sell on Poshmark full time! While it’s not all that common to JUST sell on Poshmark, there are people who do it. Most people who resell full time cross post their items on multiple marketplaces so that they can sell more items, faster. Is selling on Poshmark worth it?

This is going to be a matter of opinion, but I think selling on Poshmark is totally worth it IF you have the right types of items to sell. If you’re mainly selling things that aren’t allow on Poshmark or don’t do well on Poshmark, then it might be better to look into a different marketplace to sell your items. However, if you’re into selling fashion items then Poshmark can be a great option for selling items online.

Tips for Selling on Poshmark

Do your research

Make sure that when you get started, and even as you become a seasoned Poshmark seller, you do your research! This means researching which brands sell well and how much an item your listing has sold for in the past so you can price it appropriately. Price it too high and it might not sell, price it too low and you’re losing out on extra money.

Sell on multiple platforms, not just Poshmark

Selling on Poshmark doesn’t mean you have to only sell on Poshmark. Many resellers find that listing their items on many different selling websites is worth the time and effort because it allows them to sell more items, faster. Pad your prices

Because many people will send offers on Poshmark, it’s a good idea to pad your pricing by 10%, 20%, or even 30%. It’s hard to figure out that perfect balance between padding it enough to make room for a profit and not so much that it’s not a competitive price causing people to skip over your item. The problem with pricing at the price you want to get is that many people like to send offers and may be turned away if you reject their offer, even if it is a good deal.

Don’t do transactions off of Poshmark

You may get comments on your items from someone sharing their phone number or email and letting you know they’re interested in doing a transaction off of Poshmark. Not only is this against Poshmark’s rules and could get you kicked off the platform, it’s usually going to be a scammer so it’s not worth the risk. Keeping your transactions ON Poshmark keep you AND the buyer safe.

Share your items regularly

When someone is searching for an item, usually the results are sorted by “just shared”. This means that every time you share your item, it goes to the top of that list and increases eyes on your items. It’s recommended to share your closet at least once per day, if not more.

What to do if your items aren’t selling

If you have items listed and weeks have gone by without a sale, it’s usually because of one of the following reasons:

  • You’re priced too high
  • It’s not an item a lot of people are looking for
  • Your pictures aren’t clear or there aren’t many of them

It’s always a good idea to take a second look at items that haven’t sold in a few months to check the above.
