How to Use Keywords Effectively on Poshmark

Now let’s talk about how to actually use them (the right way) so you can improve your listing, and hopefully your sales too!

1. Be Specific and Relevant

Choose keywords that are relevant to the item you’re selling. It’s tempting to throw in popular keywords, but if they don’t describe your item, it can lead to frustrated buyers. Stick to the terms that really fit the piece.

Example: If you’re selling a flowy floral dress, using keywords like “boho,” “festival,” and “spring” makes sense, but calling it “minimalist” would be a stretch.

2. Use Keywords in Both the Title and Description

Your title is prime real estate for the most important keywords, but don’t forget about the description too! The more often relevant terms appear in your listing, the more likely it is to show up in search results.

I personally don’t spend a lot of time on the description because people don’t generally read, but I do think that if there are other important keywords that don’t fit in the title, you should put them in!

The example below is a great way to do it, but if you’re pressed for time, you can just throw some relevant keywords in at the bottom of your listing, too.

Example: “This lightweight, flowy maxi dress is perfect for summer festivals. Featuring a floral print and a boho-chic style, it’s great for warm weather and casual outings.”

3. Avoid Keyword Stuffing

Yes, keywords are important, but adding too many, especially keywords that aren’t super-relevant, is bad practice and will lead to frustrated buyers.

4. Include Brand Names

If the item is from a recognizable brand, make sure to mention that in both the title and description. Brand names are keywords too!

Final Thoughts

Keywords have always been important, but as people start to shop more based on style or specific preferences, and not based on brand, it’s more important than ever! Especially as there is more competition on each reselling platform.

Using the right keywords in your Poshmark listings can make a huge difference in your sales by bringing in the right buyers. By being specific, relevant, and strategic about where you place them, you’ll help buyers find exactly what they’re looking for—and that means more sales for you!
